Some things you need to know about my DVD movie reviews.

I never go to movie theaters and I almost always rent videos from RedBox. I do rent from Blockbuster when I have to. But let's face it I can rent movies from RedBox for $1.08 per night so I rent at RedBox when ever I can.  I am not a trained movie reviewer so my reviews are just what I think of the movies.  

I am very busy doing what I do every day and so I don't want to watch bad movies.  I do a lot of research on movies before I rent them and so I hardly ever get stung renting a bad movie.  When that happens I am really angry.  Therefore I won't waste your time and I will only review the good movies I watch.  I'm not going to give you a lot of details about the move just my gut feeling after watching it.

I tend to watch action type movies because that is the type of movies my wife likes to watch. You can't get her to watch touchy feely or funny movies.  Since I also enjoy the action movies that is what we watch.  Buy I like a lot of good different topics in the movie I will watch and so I just go ahead at times and get what I want to watch and let her think I like to watch stupid movies.

So if you want to know a lot of background in a movie like the actors names then you better read the box the DVD came in.  One other thing I never go to movies.  They cost too much, and I don't like being around all of those people in theaters.

In keeping with my policy of not reviewing any movies that are really good I find myself in the situation of not reviewing anything. I have watched a few worth mentioning. Hurt Locker not a bad movie and the Kings Speech, kinda boring but the acting was good. Check out my book reviews.

Before I rent any movie I always look at a couple web pages to try to determine if it's worth my time.  I look at the Rotten Tomatoes web page and the IDB movie database.  I usually pay a lot of attention to the ID IDB movie database as I think it's fairly accurate, with my taste in movies.  But, the rotten tomato website is another story, if it is rated high on this web page it's almost a guarantee that it stinks as far as I'm concerned.  So what I'm looking for from the Rotten Tomato site is for a low number.  Well, it was wrong this time because it gave this movie a 84% rating with which would normally tell me, don't watch it.  But,  I watched it anyway and I thought it was worth the worth viewing.

 

I will tell you that this movie is a bit complicated and you need to pay attention while you're watching it.  I had some distractions going while watching the beginning of this movie and it started bad as far as I was concerned.  Later on I was paying more attention to it and I thought it was pretty good and the ending had a nice twist to it.  I always like movies and television programs that do things that I don't expect or have a plot that I never dreamt of before.  Can't say that about this movie but it wasn't bad.

Knowing

I like Nicolas Cage and I think he made this movie worth watching.  The movie started out just fine and for that matter 97% of it was good.  I just didn't like the ending.  It was well worth the $1.08 Redbox charged to watch this movie.  If you like Nicolas Cage the go for it.  Who knows you might like the ending.

Redemption

It's a cowboy movie and I never have heard of any of the actors. Rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America for violence, some sexuality, nudity and language. The movie was made by a company I never knew existed. The photography was bad. So, why did I watch it and then take the time to write this. I liked the movie. Because it had some interesting twists in the story. Most of the western movies have the same plot. You know, bad guy runs the town, good guy came on the scene, kills the bad guy and the good guy gets the pretty girl.   This movie had some the same elements but with several twists and turns that made the movie interesting.  Like the good guy is a bad guy that is a good guy. Then there is the crazy priest that beats himself with chain whip to get guidance from God. The crazy priest turns out to be a stone cold killer that kills with one shot.

You should have fun watching all this evolve. I forgot to tell you there is a lot of violence, maybe 50 people shot.

Gran Torino

I'm getting old but Clint Eastwood really looks really old in this movie.  I found this movie to be a little too sappy for my taste.  Never the less this is well worth watching.  Clint is a tough old coot but that is exactly what I would expect Dirty Harry to be when he got real old.  It was a good movie.

Turn up the volume on the surround sound and make sure the powered woofer is working properly.  Make sure you have everything you need so you don't have to get up during the move.  Them brace yourself for one of the fastest movies you have ever watched. 

It doesn't matter that you will soon figure out how this movie is going to end.  It's just fun to watch if you like a lot of action, guns and shooting. Lots of fun here.

Here's the deal on this movie.  My wife didn't like it but I thought it was really good. I always have believed in the saying that George Bernard Shaw said "youth is wasted on the young."  Young people have everything going for them.  Physical they are in the best shape of their lives.  But by the time we have matured mentally and have the wisdom to really live good our bodies have started to give out.  So many have wondered what life would be like if we were born old became physically younger and our life progressed.  That might be a good idea if everyone lived like that but if we were the only one it might create problems.

This story was written a long time ago in the 1921 short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald

Defiance

Defiance was a movie I really enjoyed.  I like movies with tell unusual stories.  I was very interesting watching it and I really didn't know how it was going to end.  What can also say I found it very entertaining.  It's based on a true story and that makes it even more interesting.

Here is one tip that I want to give you while watching this movie.  Pay attention to the individual names of the characters in the movie.  You'll be happy you did.

I found this story intriguing and unique and recommend it highly.  I rented this from RedBox for $1.08
